Making Connections at Conference 2018

7 Nov 2018
On October 26, more than 180 community members, 90by30 team members, agency partners, and others passionate about reducing child abuse and neglect in Lane County gathered at Lane Community College's Center for Meeting and Learning for 90by30's sixth annual conference. This year's theme was "Finding and Making Connections," and a standout part of the day was watching people do just that at our lunchtime resource fair. Twenty-seven cosponsors, ranging from groups that have been part of the 90by30 effort since the beginning to brand-new supporters, joined 90by30's Regional Teams for an hour and a half of learning about each other's work and discovering new ways we can collaborate to create...

Springfield Ice Cream Social

25 Sep 2018
The Springfield Team's more casual approach to recruitment was on full display at September's ice cream social, which attracted over a dozen people and was made possible by generous donations of root beer and water from Bigfoot Beverages. Other local businesses provided raffle items, and the team enjoyed a nice afternoon in Meadow Park with guests curious in getting involved in the team. The next social is planned for October 4, and we have our fingers crossed for nice weather!

ROE Trainers Visit Lane County

11 Sep 2018
Five Roots of Empathy staff members - two from Ontario and three from Seattle - visited Eugene at the end of August to lead a three-day ROE training to prepare our 19 instructors to launch the program this fall in 20 rural classrooms. In addition, 29 teachers, principals, and school counselors attended an information session about incorporating ROE into their schools. The mother who generously volunteered her time (and her baby's!) was so excited about the program that she and Baby Memphis joined the program . . . and are completing the Lane County program's first caretaker/infant visit to a school this week. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this program a local reality!

North Lane RLT at the Veneta Farmers' Market

Make sure to catch the North Lane Regional Leadership Team tabling at the Veneta Downtown Farmers' Market this summer and fall. On Saturday July 28, August 25, September 22, and October 27, you can say hello to our volunteers in between filling your basket with local produce and picking up a dozen farm-fresh eggs. It's a great opportunity to find out more about 90by30 and the prevention strategies chosen in North Lane County while supporting the community.

McKenzie Team Hosts Parent Cafes

2 Jul 2018
The McKenzie River Team just debuted its first Parent Cafe, one of the strategies chosen by the region to give parents a place to talk, share information, and feel socially connected. The first cafe took place at Takoda's Restaraunt, and was a great step forward in building community. The questions on the Parent Cafe-branded discussion cards are open-ended enoiugh that any parent can relate, and the most comment feedback was "Wow, I didn't know other people felt the same way!" Parent Cafes are part of the prevention plan for many regions, and McKenzie will be waiting wih feedbak and adivce for the other rural teas.

On the Hunt for ROE Volunteers

1 Jul 2018
With Roots of Empathy, a school-based program that teaches elementary-school kids empathy through interactions with a local infant, launching in rural schools in Fall 2018, teams are searching for volunteer instructors to accompany the infant and cargeiver to classrooms. Instructors attend an ROE training and make a two-year commitment to meet with students during and between the visits with the infant. Volunteers will have all the support and lesson materials they need from ROE, and many instructors see tangible changes in "their" students throughout the year. If you're looking for a way to help kids and get involved with 90by30, this could be the opportunity for you. Email friends@90by30...

404 Pounds of Baby Boxes

27 Jun 2018
What do 100 Baby Boxes look like? Like this! 90by30 staff members helped haul 404 pounds of Pip & Grow Smitten Sleep Systems up to our second-floor office today. Soon the boxes will be distributed to our five rural regions as part of the Welcome Baby Box program currently in place in South Lane and launching in West Lane on July 1. Team members will fill the boxes with supplies, a resource guide, and other newborn necessities before giving them to local families with infants.
