On October 13, CPAN Director Jeff Todahl took part in a panel discussion following the virtual screening of the third of episode of Allen vs. Farrow, the Emmy-nominated docuseries, by the Museum of Tolerance, Breakthrough LA, and Jane Doe Films.

The four-part documentary series goes behind the years of sensational headlines to reveal the private story of one of Hollywood’s most notorious and public scandals: the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then 7-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow; their subsequent custody trial; the revelation of Allen’s relationship with Farrow’s daughter, Soon-Yi; and the controversial aftermath in the years that followed.

Panelists discussed issues raised in Episode 3, including the treatment of child survivors by caseworkers when they report abuse, Parental Alienation Syndrome theory that continues to dominate the family court system, mental health care, and support for survivors.

This event is yet another example of the power of centering survivors’ perspectives on both the problem of child sexual abuse and its solutions,” said Dr. Todahl. “Many communities throughout Oregon, including the Ford Family Foundation’s Protect Our Children initiative, are actively working to prevent sexual abuse – and it is making a difference.”
