supports and strengths for middle schoolers

90by30’s newest strategy, a program to support middle school youth, will launch in Fall 2022 in West Lane.

Community members and Siuslaw middle school staff will offer a meetup every third Sunday of the month from 1-3:30 p.m. Through creative activities, each session offers opportunities for kids to connect with each other, embark on service projects, develop time management tools, explore personal character and more. Students who attend the EmpowerME meetups can expect opportunities to expand their social connections, create arts and crafts, play games, and more, all while eating yummy snacks.

The EmpowerME project is inspired by the Search Institute’s Developmental Assets Framework, an evidence-based structure that has identified 40 positive supports and strengths that young people need to succeed. At each meetup, youth and adult volunteers work to support the development of these identified assets, including service to others, community values, sense of purpose, and planning and decision making.
