Sid Johnson, a friend to many and a member of 90by30’s Steering Committee, died at home on May 27, surrounded by family, after a short battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Many of you met Sid; some of you knew him well. Following a long career in national politics and child abuse prevention advocacy, Sid retired to Eugene where he dedicated many hundreds of hours to CASA, the Trauma Healing Project, and 90by30. He led with thoughtfulness, compassion, and a quick wit.
Sid was a champion of early learning and child abuse prevention national legislation – including as Senior Legislative Aid to Walter Mondale. His work to pass high quality child care for all was featured in the groundbreaking documentary series The Raising of America. Sid was featured, in particular, in segment 2, Once Upon a Time. He was instrumental in successful passage of the landmark Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act and served as the CEO and President of Prevent Child Abuse America. He also championed 1% to Prevent. More about Sid is here.
The world lost an incredible person, truly. With sadness, and with much gratitude for Sid’s service in our community – for what he did and, especially, for how he did it.
